I had the good fortune to attend three writing conferences this summer, making this one of the most productive times of my writing life.
JUNE: West Chester Poetry Conference
- Bench poets
- First Books Panel, in which I pretend it’s totally normal to read in front of Alicia Stallings & Molly Peacock.
- It was my great honor to set up the Iron Haiku Chef Competition with Anna Yin, judge it with Quincy Lehr, and crown the 2017 champ, Michael Palmer.
- Any conference that results in getting a hand-knit hat from Becky Foust is a great success.
JULY: Sewanee Writers’ Conference
- Found my book in the Sewanee bookstore!
- Thanks to Amanda Huynh for capturing the bliss of working with Marilyn Nelson.
- The requisite awkward scholars’ reading action shot.
- My amazing workshop group led by Charles Martin and Marilyn Nelson.
AUGUST: Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference
- I got to work with Ellen Bryant Voight, ya’all.
- Writers or the cast of the hottest new girlfriends sitcom?
- Achievement unlocked: reading at Bread Loaf.
- The infamous tipsy hayride (the only accurate part in The Simpsons episode 18.6).
